Biography

Zahra (Forouq) Kanaani is currently pursuing a second Master’s degree in Sustainable International Agriculture at the University of Göttingen and University of Kassel, with a focus in the area of agroecology, climate change and agro-politics. Previously, in 2013, she completed her M.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering and Agronomy in Iran, with thesis work investigating organic practices to suppress competitor plants on the crop field. In her comprehensive experiments, she considered 71 cultivars of wheat and 3 common rife species of weed in wheat farms of Iran. Also she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, Agronomy and Plant breeding from the University of Tehran with the focus on plant physiology. Currently, she works as a freelance journalist in public science in Iran, as well as a social activist in “Humanitarian Assistance and Development” and is a member of the academic coordination team of the lecture-series in “Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security” at the University of Kassel in Germany. Regarding her activities, Ms. Kanaani was selected for several seminars and graduate study programs, such as United Nations study program in Geneva, Kyoto University of Japan, etc. She is going to continue her studies as a Ph.D. student in the subject of food safety and agro-politics in Germany.
